Jasmine

Jasmine

Is there anything more delectable than the intoxicating fragrance of the Jasmine flower? That alone is worth the growing, although the delicate mass of white flowers amid climbing green foliage trained around a window is a wonderful sight. Usually grown: Poet’s Jasmine (P. officinale) is more bushy; Winter Jasmine (J. polyanthum) is a vigorous vine. There are also varieties with variegated leaves.

Light - Enjoys high light, including a half day of full sun.

Temperature - Appreciates warm conditions of 60-80º F; Winter Jasmine needs 40-55º F in fall to early winter.

Watering - Keep very moist; provide extra humidity.

Feeding - Use fish emulsion every two weeks spring through summer.

Potting Mix - An all-purpose potting soil with added humus is ideal; train on a trellis or hang in a basket.

Tips - After bloom is over, prune the plant back to give it a nice shape. Spider mites may attack if humidity is too low; use lightweight horticultural oil spray to eradicate.
