Spathiphylllum

Spathiphyllum(“Peace Lily”, “Spathe Flower”)

The hooded white flowers of the Peace Lily, along with the shiny and graceful long green foliage, makes this an elegant houseplant. Exceptionally easy and tolerant, the plant sends up many leaf stems, and flowers appear occasionally almost any time, lasting about six weeks. It can reach two feet tall, although there are compact varieties as well.

Light - Happy in low to medium indirect light, never in a sunny spot.

Temperature - Enjoys average to warm conditions of 65-75º F.

Watering - Keep evenly moist, never allow the leaves to droop.

Feeding - Fertilize twice a month.

Potting Mix - Use an all-purpose potting mix enriched with organic material, about 3:1 is ideal, repotting in spring.

Tips - Unusually, this is a plant that refuses to bloom if it has too much light, so if there are no flowers, try a slightly dimmer spot. Brown leaf tips can mean either too much fertilizer or too little water.
