ZZ Plant

ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)

Although the ZZ has been around for decades, it’s suddenly become the “In” houseplant, not just because of the amazing and always shiny green leaves that ladder up fleshy stems. An eco-friendly survivor despite neglect and even the lowest of light, ZZ is a gem for water conservation because of its underground potato-like tuber that holds water.

Light - Happiest in medium to bright indirect light, but tolerates much lower.

Temperature - 65-75º F.

Watering - Let the surface of the potting mix dry out completely between thorough waterings, usually once every other week or even once a month; when in doubt, don’t water.

Feeding - Give an application fish emulsion once a month during the warmest season.

Potting Mix - Best in a sand-based or all-purpose potting mix.

Tips - Keep away from young children and pets, because every part of the plant can make you sick. About the only way to kill a ZZ is with too much water; don’t let it stand in any.
